About Me

Treatment of Children, Adolescents, and Adults

Out of your vulnerabilities will come your strength.
– Sigmund Freud.

One of my main goals as your therapist is to help enhance your effectiveness in life by identifying your strengths. These may be characteristics such as patience, determination, dedication and creativity. Our work together can eventually help you understand the influence of your past on your current life so that you can shift towards a direction of healing. Through this process, you can also move towards minimizing  and repeating painful and unproductive behaviors. Before change can occur, we must first identify when we may be setting up situations that allow us to repeat traumatic events.  These habitual patterns keep us as prisoner in our emotional pain.

With many years of experience as a psychologist & psychoanalyst, I can help you analyze and understand what unconscious issues currently effect your behaviors and thinking. Only after awareness, change can be  affected. The ultimate goal is to increase your ability to feel pleasure and success. We can work together to help confront triggering events that are connected to past and present experiences. This will also help you to reduce your current symptoms with everyday stress, anxiety, and depression.  I may offer support through significant loss of a family member, friend, or partner.  Allowing for the process of mourning is a critical step towards moving forward, even when it feels like an impossibility.

Dr. Robyn Cooper PSYD
Psychologist in Manhattan, NY and Westchester, NY.

My background and training as an Art Therapist was a major determinant in my decision to become a Psychologist and Psychoanalyst.
I was enthralled by the power, curative possibilities, and revealing nature in the creative process. As a result, my area of particular interest is in working with artists, writers, photographers and individuals in the theater and music industry. I am an interactive therapist with extensive postgraduate training. I am told that my use of humor and occasionally sarcasm in sessions helps to lighten the mood.
